The airlines are now banning passengers from booking trips that take more than 15 minutes to travel.
The change was announced on Twitter by Emirates and British Airways in response to a petition from the Travel Advice Association (TA) and the National Travel Council (NTC).
Emirates said: If you’re looking to book a business or leisure flight, or a trip where you’re travelling from a destination with an extended stay policy, you’ll be required to pay an extra £50 to book.
We understand there’s a lot of interest in these types of options, but this change will prevent these types from being offered.
This change will apply to all destinations, including those with extended stay policies.
The ban applies to flights booked through a third-party booking agent or through a ticketing system, including the Emirates website, as well as flights booked via the website, on an online booking platform or by phone.
We’re looking into this, but we apologise for any inconvenience.
We are notifying all passengers of the new policy.
We will be rolling out a change to the booking process for all of our flights this weekend, so we’d like to make sure you are aware of the change so you can make the best decision for your travel plans.
